Infinix aims for empowerment with its revolutionary 32MP Selfie Smartphone

infinix s4

The pace of change in the smartphone scene has been rapid in the last decade, from the introduction of touchscreens to the consistent upgrading of network speed.

It was impossible to imagine the possibility of using a phone as a tool for habitually accessing the virtual world, now its as ubiquitous as sliced bread. When touchscreens were first introduced, they completely changed how we perceived and utilized smartphones. There was a similar transformative shift with the development of smartphone intelligence, specifically cameras infused with AI for better image detection and optimization among others.

Infinix, a brand that has been continuously providing the most cutting-edge technology to consumers, is about to empower them by introducing the impressive 32MP Selfie camera, quite a historic feat that can barely be rivalled. Infinix S4 is set to change the selfie scene with its 32MP AI selfie camera that has significantly higher intelligence with automatic detection capabilities.

The phone also comes with a 6.2’ waterdrop display screen, a triple rear camera for much better portrait images, a fast octa-core processor, a 4000mAh battery power and an upgraded XOS 5.0 software for a seamless operation experience. Infinix is set to assert its authority and reclaim its spot in the competitive smartphone market that had been hemmed by its rivals, providing its customers with an empowerment device to that would not just elevate their selfie skills, but also help position them on the spotlight.

The S4 device will be retailing at Ghc799 and will be available in various platforms and all Infinix Exclusive stores

The S4 is set to challenge the smartphones currently dominating the mid end category, and claim its rightful spot among the top stunning smartphones this year. Infinix has done very well in the past in the entry level category with its SMART and HOT series options. The S series branched out of the HOT series to focus on selfie optimization. The S4 is all about creating the ultimate superior selfie for a purpose, which is to create an empowerment potential for our consumers. When a selfie is taken on the S4, it will be one of a kind, the kind that might turn one into a social media star.

Imagine vivid selfies that can be captured with the 32MP AI selfie camera, such a big capacity with 1.6um ultra pixels and an F2.0 aperture. The camera has a far much higher capacity for light intake and absorption, producing such surreal selfies that can only be fantasized about.

The advanced Samsung S5KGD1 sensor as well the 5P optical lens gives the best contrast and resolution ratios for optimal image refinement. The triple 13MP+8MP+2MP rear camera is an added bonus, permitting the capturing of far wider angles than what is normally possible with an ordinary dual camera.

The triple cameras are responsible for depth, distance and field of view respectively, with the S4 allowing for up to 120°capture. Portrait images from the S4 could be exported to the gallery directly, therefore could easily empower a struggling amateur photographer’s career. The glossy dual glass-like design is the icing on the cake.

It gives the S4 such a royalty appearance, essentially positioning it on the same level as the high-end smartphones.

Empowerment is not possible without reliable power, and Infinix has never disappointed with its battery power. The S4 has incorporated a Smart power management system that helps optimize power utilization by automatically inducing inactive status for apps not in use and halting their background data uptake. In other words, only the needed power is consumed each time the phone is in use, a true innovation that empowers the green environment conservation movement.

Said Mr Charlie  GuohuaCao – Infinix Mobile Brand Manager for Ghana .

Better security is no longer an option but a must have in a gadget, the S4 has infused an algorithm that can detect up to 1024 data points on the face, significantly increasing its facial detection accuracy. The face unlock function in combination with the fingerprint lock technology, together provide solid security for all the data stored in the device.

Infinix is committed to continuously integrate fashion and technology for intelligent lifestyle experiences to those who need it most in the emerging markets. The S4 was re-engineered to come up with the best superior smartphone that is not exorbitant. It will definitely be a gadget to empower many rising stars in various emerging markets, and a true game-changer in the selfie market.

Meet Gerard Nweje: A 12-year-old Mobile Game Developer

ghana software developer

Most 12-year-olds love to play computer games, but one day, Gerard Nweje, a high school student in Ghana decided to delete all the games on his computer to build his own games.

After his parents enrolled him at Codetrain, a special school in Ghana that trains app developers, he discovered that with coding skills, he could realise his dream of building his own mobile games.

To get to the level of building mobile games at Codetrain, he was taught the required technologies such as Java, XML, Android Studio and within a few months, he had already started building his first mobile app.

“When I started it was quite challenging, but I got a lot of mentoring from my teachers at Codetrain, and in less than six months, I started to employ my own game ideas into my Android apps”.

Gerard caught the attention of Tino Mavunga, a Zimbabwean software entrepreneur and media strategist, on her visit to Codetrain and she suggested that he meets Eyram Akofa Tawiah, CEO of Leti Arts, a globally recognised award winning Ghanaian game development and digital comics company. Leti Arts recently released Karmzah (the world’s first cerebral palsy superheroine) in collaboration with Farida Bedwei, a celebrated Ghanaian software entrepreneur.

Eyram who has mentored quite a good number of young people into success in the tech space offered to mentor Gerard to help harness his full potential. “Meeting Eyram was an inspiring experience, he answered all my questions and encouraged me to even aim higher” – Gerard.

Gerard showcased one of his games at the recently held Demo Day, an event where students of Codetrain showcase their apps to companies and the general public, and the next demo day is scheduled for April 26.

“I believe that our young ones are equally talented as other kids from any corner of the world, and with the right training programs and mentoring, we can help them unleash their talent so that they can do great things and Gerard’s success proves that” Codetrain’s CEO Richard Brandt.

GRA Launches an Online Platform for Tax Collection

online Platform for Tax Collection

Ghana’s tax collection institute, the Ghana Revenue Authority(GRA), has introduced an online platform for tax collection and its related activities. The aim of this platform is to help improve tax collection and filing of returns in the country.

The platform is formally called the Integrated Tax Application and Preparation System (also known as the ITAPS). The Integrated Tax Application and Preparation System (ITAPS) platform will serve as a single place to conduct all tax-related activities and services online.

The ITAPS platform will allow individuals and companies to prepare taxes and apply tax services online. ITAPS, as well, enables the taxpayer to receive other GRA services online. Taxpayers will just have to create their account, log in and file their annual tax returns. All this will be done from the comfort of users’ homes or offices.

With this platform, users can as well have access to services from the Ghana Revenue Authority. Such services include Withholding Tax Credit Certificate (e-Tax Credit) and VAT Withholding Tax Credit Certificate (e-VAT Credit). Users can as well access their Tax Clearance Certificate (e-TCC) via the ITAPS platform.

There are options through which taxpayers can pay their taxes with this platform. The taxes can be paid through the usual mobile money system or other online payments channels.

Already, the first stage of the ITAPS online platform is up and running. The platform, for the time being, has accessibility for individual taxpayers only —only individuals can pay their taxes online for now. The next stage will include accessibility for companies and multinationals. That phase is slated to be formally rolled out by June this year.

Did you know that the average man in Ghana spends about 45 minutes to over one hour waiting in queues for his turn to get a haircut in a barbering shop? This doesn’t include the amount of time spent commuting from your location to the barbering shop.

Now that is a lot of time you could have spent engaging in equally important activities like spending quality time with the family, engaging in leisure or working in the office.

Branding now is trying to measure not just the affinity, but the trust a consumer has in you,” says Todd Copilevitz, a branding consultant in Atlanta. Every business needs branding to attract more customers and that’s just what some two Ghanaian men are doing with their haircut business

They go by the name Shave Masters and their mission is simple, really: Barbering at your doorstep. And that’s where the branding comes in. Each day, people who get a haircut walk to barbering shops to get their haircut nicely done but what happens if you are very busy and can’t make it to your favourite barbering saloon?

With Shave Masters, you don’t have to waste time in long queues for a haircut, you only need to sit at the comfort of your home or office and they will come to wherever you are in Accra to give you the best haircut.

Like many entrepreneurs, Shave Masters have found that savvy branding efforts go a long way toward cultivating that trust. And while there’s no single formula for branding your way into a client’s warm embrace, it’s generally agreed that it takes more than a clever slogan or a catchy jingle. At the very least, it takes strong job performance, effective marketing (often online) and favorable public opinion.

The average Ghanaian spends long hours waiting in queues for a haircut. Why travel long distances and wait in long queues for a hair cut, when you can simply pick up a phone and call Shave Masters to come to you in the comfort of your home or office and give you the excellent haircut you deserve?

Why go through the hustle of commuting and waiting in long queues just to get a haircut, when you can simply pick up a phone and call Shave Masters to come to your house, office or any location, to give you the perfect haircut you deserve.

It’s Convenient, Affordable and Reliable. At Shave Masters, they value your time and your comfort. Waste no time. Give them a call on 0243374715 or 0201357533

7 Ways to have Safe with Uber

It’s the start of a New Year, and in addition to resolutions, vision boards and goals, people are also concerned about how to make their daily commute safer and less stressful.

Thankfully, with technology apps like Uber, people can look forward to having less stressful and safer commutes from point A to B. Here are seven ways to have a safer ride on Uber:

1. Make sure it matches

So you’ve requested a ride? Once the car arrives, check your app and make sure the driver, car and registration plates match what’s in your app. If you find any discrepancies or inconsistencies with any of the aforementioned, feel free to politely cancel the trip. You may get charged a cancellation fee – but never fear; once you file a report via your in-app help feature, Uber will look into it and possibly reimburse you if required.

2. Request with your app

It’s important for riders to remember that rides can only be requested through the Uber app, so no matter how much of a hurry you may be in, don’t feel pressured to accept street hail solicitations from anyone claiming to be with Uber – always look in your app to confirm.

3. Wait for your ride in a safe place

Request a ride only when you’re ready to leave where you are. It is important to avoid spending unnecessary time alone outside, while peering at your phone. As much as possible, avoid dark, poorly lit or lonely areas.  In a case where your driver arrives, and the inside of the car is dark, you are encouraged to politely ask the driver to switch on the inner light to help confirm identity.

4. Be Polite and Courteous

According to Uber’s Community Guidelines – both drivers and riders are encouraged to be polite and courteous to one another. Mutual respect is key and under no circumstances should riders or drivers disrespect the other. Vehicles used on the Uber app belong to the driver-partners and they take pride in keeping their vehicles in good condition for riders to be comfortable. Therefore, riders should respect the vehicle they are in and should leave the vehicle in the condition in which they found it. Unruly behaviour such as damaging the vehicle is not tolerated. Using bad language is also not allowed. Being aggressive or discriminatory can also get a rider or driver access to the app removed.

5. Share Your Trip With Trust Contacts

Do you know that you can share details of your trip with your loved ones? Uber’s technology has made it possible for all trips to be tracked using GPS. While en route, riders are able to monitor their own trip in the app as well as share their Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) with up to five of their trusted contacts. This will help friends and family keep track of where they are on the trip and they can do this without even downloading the Uber app! How cool is that?

6. Use Your In-app Help Function

Have you had an issue with regards to your trip? Maybe you have an issue with the fare, route, or quality of the ride? The in-app Help function in the Uber app is the fastest way to get your issues resolved. The tool is designed to help riders get a prompt response to their queries in the shortest time possible. The support system can be accessed by navigating to the “Help’’ section on the menu, which helps riders and driver-partners alike to communicate their concerns they might have during a trip and get an instant response. Uber has a 24/7 global support team which reviews issues and follows up with appropriate action regarding reports that go against the Community Guidelines.

7. Rate Your Ride

Giving feedback after every trip is extremely important – whether it’s positive or negative. What did you like about the trip? Would you give the driver 5-stars? Was the music collection great? Was the route excellent for cutting off traffic? Qualitative feedback helps improve the Uber experience for everyone, maintain a high quality service and provide accountability.

Jumia has been approved to list its shares on the New York Stock Exchange

jumia shares new york stock exchange

Reports coming in from tech blog Techpoint.africa indicates Jumia Technologies AG is getting closer to finally launch its Initial Public Offering (IPO), following the approval to list its shares on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) as JMIA.

Jumia had originally declared its intention with a Form F-1 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on March 12, 2019.

According to an amended F-1 filing dated March 28, 2019, Jumia has been approved to list its American Depositary Shares (ADS) — US dollar-denominated equity shares of a foreign-based company available for purchase on an American stock exchange — on the NYSE. Anticipating an initial IPO price of between $13 and $16, Jumia will be selling 13.5 million ADS when it eventually launches.

At an anticipated maximum price of $16 per ADS, the company could raise up to $316 million or more.

Although Jumia has the approval to list its shares, its registration statement filed with SEC is yet to be declared effective, which is like the final go-ahead from the commission for the company to launch its IPO. And according to a SEC official, once that happens, it will be up to the company whether and when to launch its IPO.

The amendment also highlights the private placement agreement between Jumia and Mastercard Europe with which the latter has agreed to buy €50.0 million (about $55.98million) ordinary shares in a concurrent private placement.

Beyond raising money through the impending public offering and the private placement, Jumia may require additional capital to finance its operations as well as growth in the future. This is on the account that the company had an accumulated loss of €862.0 million (about $965.07 million) as of December 31, 2018.

And as stated in the SEC filings, “there is no guarantee that we will generate sufficient revenue in the future to offset the cost of maintaining our platform and maintaining and growing our business.”

How effective will the IPO be on the profitability of the largest eCommerce platform in Africa? As it is, the world will have to wait for an answer to that question when Jumia eventually launches its IPO.

What Just Happened To Bitcoin (BTC)? Crypto Analysts Explain

bitcoin cryptocurrency

What. The. Hell.

As reported by Ethereum World News earlier today, Bitcoin (BTC) suddenly spiked straight out of left field. Within minutes, the cryptocurrency found itself above $4,200 after trading right under that resistance level for a number of days, even weeks. While BTC breached $5,000 for a brief period during Tuesday morning’s sudden spike, the market has since pulled back slightly to $4,650, as buying pressure has subsided from the Asian and European markets.

However, some are hopeful that with the opening of the American trading session, investors across the pond of Europe on Wall Street will be subject to FOMO, thereby creating a second wave of buying pressure. It isn’t clear if this will occur, as some have postulated that this move was a result of always-on bots, but crypto investors across the board are rather hopeful.

Bitcoin Analysts Explain

Save for a few soothsayers, this move caught many traders with their pants down. In fact, crypto Youtuber Sunny Decree recently joked that he recently made the “worst trade since [he] got on Youtube”, as he shorted $4,200. The fact is, there wasn’t a clear fundamental catalyst that drove this move. Sure, fundamentals for the ecosystem have recently been booming, with there being continual macro factors, institutional announcements, and technical developments that have been an underlying boon for the industry. But, many are sure that Tuesday’s move, which brought BTC from $4,150 to $4,650 — a move of ~14% — was a result of pure technicals.

In response to a comment about the sentiment that CNBC is going to cover the crap out of this Bitcoin news tomorrow, industry trader The Crypto Dog explained that this move was simply price seeking liquidity. With there being relatively little volume, as seen by the lack of a large green candle below, this might not have been the ‘whale buy order’ that some looked to.

And once $4,200 was breached, there was little friction in the order books in the mid-$4,000s, in spite of there being important resistance zones in that region. Thus, a short squeeze, or “cascading liquidations” as The Crypto Dog called it, perpetuated Bitcoin’s brief spike to $5,000+.

Crypto Quantamental expressed a similar sentiment, but with a more bullish tone. He explained that the move was simple, with there being weeks of consistent gains, a clear move to test the $4,200 resistance, a declining long-short ratio, and massive “air” above $4,200 to drive the move. All this came together for a monumental 15% pump — the first of its kind in months.

Crypto Industry Over The Moon (Literally?)

As a result of this move, crypto investors have been over the moon. Jeet Sidhu joked that “life is good” minutes after BTC started to rally. WhalePanda posted a cheery “Anchorman” GIF as BTC surmounted $4,600. And by and large, cryptocurrency stakeholders expressed buoyant sentiment, as they realized that the market could finally begin a recovery.
