WhatsApp’s New Update Will Ensure You Don’t Send Pictures To The Wrong Contact

whatsapp new updates status

We all have accidentally sent pictures to contacts we were not supposed to on WhatsApp. And thankfully, the popular messaging app is now rolling out a new feature that can save you from this goof-up.

A new WhatsApp update is on the way for Android which will help a user double check the name of the contact to whom they want to send images to before hitting the send button.

Now, you will be spared of the embarrassment of your pictures ending up with somebody they weren’t meant for. Currently, the app shows the image of recipients in the top left-hand corner of the screen when an image is being selected and edited by the user. This new update will be a more productive substitute rather than the need to delete sent messages and arousing confusion to the recipient.

The update, which is currently running for the WhatsApp Android Beta version, will show you the media recipients’ name below the caption in the screen so that the users can be sure whom they’re sharing their pictures, GIFs and videos with

Apart from this update, WhatsApp has also added the Picture-in-Picture feature. This will allow users to watch videos with the app running in the background, allowing users to switch chats and apps while the video in playing. Both these features are a part of the latest 2.18.301 beta update of WhatsApp for Android. There is no information provided as to when the update will arrive on iOS.

Over the years, WhatsApp has had some interesting updates. The messaging app has also limited the number of text forwards, in an effort to curb the spread of fake news. The company recently announced that it will take legal action against those who use the app for sending automated spam messages. The Facebook-owned application will also start showing ads in the Status tab starting from next year, similar to Instagram Stories.

Facebook Announces Its Libra Cryptocurrency And Wallet

Facebook libra Cryptocurrency Wallet

Facebook was long-rumoured to introduce its own cryptocurrency. Now, stepping into the all-new crypto world, Facebook has finally made its Libra Cryptocurrency official.

The Mark Zuckerberg-owned company has launched its cryptocurrency wallet called Calibra for its Libra cryptocurrency, based on blockchain technology.

The aim of launching a new digital crypto wallet is to allow users to save as much as they can, along with the ability to send, receive and spend virtual money.

Users will be able to send Libra via the Calibra app with ease in a few minutes and will eventually be able to conduct various purchases such as buying stuff by scanning QR code paying bills, and more.

Calibra will follow various privacy steps such as verification and anti-fraud steps, much like banks, to maintain the safety of users. Additionally, Calibra will make sure it doesn’t share users’ information with other apps without his or her knowledge, which becomes a must after all the data breaches Facebook has been a part of.

As stated previously, Facebook has collaborated with various financial institutions as co-founders for its crypto project, such as MasterCard, Visa, PayPal, Stripe, eBay, Spotify, Uber, Lyft, Vodafone Group, Andreessen Horowitz, Facebook, and more.

Calibra will be available as a separate app and on Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, starting in 2020.

Facebook, since news of its cryptocurrency popped up, has been banking high on the new arena and with its official announcement, the new wallet could help attract more people and could compete with the likes if Google Pay and more.

Nonetheless, only time will tell how Facebook’s Calibra fairs in the crypto world.

Ghana eSports Master League to Commence in June

Ghana eSports Master League madagastar

Madagastar eSports, one of the groups championing eSports in the country, has officially announced the date for the commencement of its eSports Master League for Ghanaian eSports players.

The FIFA 19 Ghana Master league which will be contested by 80 players will commence on the 22nd of June and end on the 24th of August, 2019.

After a series of qualification matches which were organized on the 16th of February, 2019; 23rd March, 2019; 20th April, 2019 and 18th May, 2019 at West Hills mall, 32 players have qualified to join 48 other participants, who were on standby, for the 2019 edition of the Ghana eSports master league.

The journey so far

The Ghana eSports master league has been running for three years now since its inception in 2017. Last year, about 32 players were relegated after the league to create space for the admission of new players for the 2019 season.

The relegation of the 32 participants necessitated the organization of the qualification matches which came off on the aforementioned dates. Each qualification saw the quarter-finalists, the last eight participants, qualifying automatically for the master league.

The other 48 participants making up the 80 secured their place in this year’s edition as a result of falling within the best 48 players in the 2018 season.

The tournament

The 80 participating players would be grouped into 4 zones with each zone having 20 players. Each player will play 38 matches in a home and away fixture with the other 19 players in the zone. A player will be awarded 3 points for winning a game, 1 point for drawing a game and 0 point for losing a game.

All matches in each zone will be played within 7 days before the Ghana Ultimate cup begins. Zone A will thus begin on 22nd June, Zone B will begin on 29th June, zone C will begin on 6th July and Zone D will begin on 13th July 2019.

Ghana league

At the end of the initial stages, the first four teams in each zone will qualify for the round of 16 stage where players will battle it out in the Ghana Ultimate Cup. The 16 participants to have qualified for the Ghana Ultimate Cup will be grouped into two with each participant playing 7 games in a group. The first four from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals of the Ghana ultimate Cup where the best 4 will progress to the semifinals. The best two from the semifinals will then progress to the finals with the winner being determined through a home and away fixture.

Prizes

ghana madagastar league 2019

The prizes for participants will be announced at an eSports conference which will come off on the 15thof June, 2019. The zonal draw will also be conducted at the conference as well as the spelling out of rules for the league.

As the phone comes in two versions with respect to the RAM, so does the camera setup. The 1GB RAM model has a single 13MP AI rear camera. Meanwhile, the 2GB RAM model has two rear cameras. The primary lens is 13MP, and the secondary is a 2MP lens.

For the selfie side, both models possess an 8MP lens.

Tony Elumelu Foundation to Host the Largest Gathering of African Entrepreneurs at 5th Annual Entrepreneurship Forum in July in Abuja

The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), Africa’s foremost champion of entrepreneurship, will host its 5th Annual Forum — the largest annual gathering of African entrepreneurs – on July 26 – 27, 2019. The two-day event will take place at the iconic Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

The Forum is the culmination of the annual Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme, which this year mentored, trained and seeded over 3,000 young Africans, selected from over [216,000] applicants.  The event provides a unique opportunity for young women and men, from all 54 African countries, to meet, learn and network with the broader African and global entrepreneurship ecosystem. It is also a critical opportunity for political leaders and policy makers to meet, face to face, a new generation of African business leaders, who are transforming Africa’s economic trajectory.

Keynote speakers at the highly anticipated Forum include His Excellency Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, and His Excellency Macky Sall, President of Senegal, who will join Tony O. Elumelu, CON, TEF Founder and Chairman of Heirs Holdings and the United Bank for Africa (UBA) in an intimate open house discussion. The Presidential Convening is a highlight of the Forum,  allowing the African entrepreneurs in attendance to closely engage with political leaders, to give first hand testimony of the important role government can play in catalysing growth and encouraging business ambition.

The Forum agenda includes masterclasses and panel discussions with leading speakers and sector experts, from Africa and globally, who will engage attendees in specialised training sessions to share insights, deepen their knowledge and refine their skills. The Forum will also feature a pitching event, where select entrepreneurs will deliver exciting presentations on the goods and services they provide to a distinguished judging panel.

For first time the Forum will be hosted in Abuja, the Federal Capital of Nigeria and will bring together leading policymakers, business leaders, development agencies and the entire entrepreneurship ecosystem including alumni of the Foundation’s Entrepreneurship Programme.

Last year, a significant highlight was the launch of TEFConnect, the digital networking platform for African entrepreneurs, which provides a unique digital hub for the African entrepreneurship, facilitating networking, mentorship and most importantly business beyond borders. Previous Forums have been headlined by African leaders, including President of Ghana, HE Nana Akufo-Addo, President of Kenya, HE Uhuru Kenyatta, Former President of Nigeria, HE Olusegun Obasanjo, Former Prime Minister of Benin and TEF Advisory Board Member, HE Lionel Zinsou, Vice President of Nigeria, HE Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

The Tony Elumelu Foundation’s determination to bring change in scale, across Africa and its relentless focus on entrepreneurship is rooted in the inclusive philosophy of Africapitalism, created by its Founder, which recognizes economically empowering Africa’s youth — the continent’s future wealth creators — and thereby creating sustainable economic and social wealth, as one of the most pressing issues of the 21st century. In 2015, the Foundation committed $100 million to empower 10,000 entrepreneurs from across the continent, over 10 years. Now in the 5th year, the Foundation has funded, mentored and provided business management training to over 7,500 start-ups and small businesses, from all 54 countries in Africa.

“The TEF Entrepreneurship Forum will not just convene the most important stakeholders in the African entrepreneurship ecosystem, it provides an opportunity for everyone to make a commitment to advance entrepreneurship and scale the impact of our entrepreneurs if we are to accelerate the development of the continent,” TEF CEO, Ifeyinwa Ugochukwu said.

She added: “We are constantly inspired by the stories we receive from our entrepreneurs who are creating jobs, employing people and impacting their local communities and ultimately, the continent. We believe that these entrepreneurs are our future. Invest in them now and reap the Africa of our dreams tomorrow. This is what we are committed to.”
